Every patient at Desert Palms receives a personalized treatment plan developed by you in coordination with your treatment team. Our program has special focus on creating an inclusive community for LGBTQ patients, young adults, and patients that have struggled with relapse in that past. We use specialized treatments to treat co-occurring disorders and trauma.

LGBTQ Community

Our awareness of your unique struggles is considered when developing your treatment plan. Individual therapy, group therapy, and residential treatment will be structured around your sexual orientation and gender identity. Family therapy allows you to invite your family of choice to assist in your journey to recovery. The Desert Palms staff is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for you to promote acceptance and healthy recovery.

Young Adults

The youth track, for patients 18-24, was designed to address the unique generational triggers of a younger generation. Your treatment plan will be structured so your peers can also become a support structure for your recovery. Individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy will focus on overcoming unique challenges for your age group like social media and peer pressure.

Relapse Prevention

Recovery is hard work. You may have tried another treatment, or even had some success going cold turkey on your own but find that your addiction keeps coming back into your life. Desert Palms can give you the tools with our specialized track in relapse prevention to live a life in recovery. Your treatment plan will place you with peers who have also struggled with relapse, so you can learn alternative coping methods and be exposed to a community wide support system.

Co-occurring Disorders

Separate professionals often treat addiction and mental health disorders, but we recognize that both diseases can exaggerate the effects of the other on your life. These co-occurring disorders to your addiction should be treated simultaneously for better results with both. During your assessment the Desert Palms treatment team will look for signs of co-occurring disorders and plan your treatment so you can have success in treatment and your future like in recovery.

Treating Trauma Directly

Desert Palms recognizes that trauma is a root cause of many addictions and treats trauma with specialized programs. Two innovative therapies, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT) are used by our therapist to work through your trauma.

EMDR Therapy uses hand taps, audio stimulation and lateral eye movement to help develop new emotional responses to traumatic memories. ETT Therapy uses color manipulation to help develop a new emotional response to traumatic memories. Both therapies seek to change traumatic memories to neutral memories and help you gain acceptance. Your treatment team will determine if EMDR or ETT are appropriate for your journey to recovery.
